Biatorbágy’s centuries-old Reformed school is set to get a new building. The contract for the construction work was awarded to LATEREX, Magyar Építő and EBH.

The Reformed school in Bia has a history stretching back more than 200 years; from 1883, it operated in a school building with two large classrooms, situated next to the church and covered with tiled roofing. Nationalised in 1948, the Reformed school resumed operations in September 2012 after a 64-year hiatus; in 2026, following several years of preparation, construction is set to begin on a new school building designed by DNS Architectural Studio, construction can begin on a school building that is in keeping with our times and worthy of the institution’s past.

„The guiding principles of the design were balance, a moderate scale and understated ornamentation, in keeping with Protestant architectural traditions” – wrote the designers about their design, which won the national competition.

We have previously reported on the investment by the Danube Region Reformed Church District reported. According to the recently published public procurement notice, the conditional tender procedure has been successfully concluded. A development project worth 6.5 billion forints will be carried out, with the construction divided into four phases. The tasks for the first phase will be carried out for 3.9 billion forints, followed by the second phase for 1.3 billion forints by LATEREX Építő Zrt. The contract for the third phase was awarded to Magyar Építő Zrt. with a bid of 440 million forints, whilst the construction work for the fourth phase will be carried out by the experts of EB Hungary Invest Kft., who submitted a bid of 807 million forints.

The 6,000-square-metre building will house 16 classrooms

Construction is set to begin on a 16-class primary school in Biatorbágy, which will help alleviate the infrastructure challenges facing this suburban town by providing two classes per year group from Year 1 to Year 8. The school will feature 16 classrooms, 4 group rooms, 7 specialist classrooms and a gym, with a total capacity of 480 pupils. The planned floor area of the building is 5,997 m2, which will also house a „Type B” gymnasium with a floor area of 750 m2 and a catering kitchen capable of serving 500 meals.

Four parts, one whole

In the first phase, LETEREX will have 540 days to complete the structural work on the traditional brick-built school building, which has a floor area of 3,489.31 m²2; this includes the installation of central heating (with a heat pump), the installation of water and drainage networks, the ventilation system, the fitting out of the lift, and the installation of building electrical systems, fire alarms and kitchen equipment. They must also provide road access to the building, create car parks, and landscape the area in front of the building and between the wings.

In the second phase, LATEREX has 360 days to complete the structural work on the classrooms covering an area of 1,356.65 m², together with the associated specialist trade works.

Within 300 days, the contractor awarded the third phase (Magyar Építő) must complete the structural works for the building section (physical education hall and staff accommodation) with a floor area of 427.61 m² 2 as part of the main contract, as well as carry out the associated specialist works.

As a separate unit, the 723.31 m²2 gymnasium can be constructed in the fourth phase under contract EBH, with 350 days allocated for the completion of all specialist works.
