When building swimming pools, maintaining a consistent standard of on-site workmanship, managing the duration of the construction process, and dealing with exposure to weather conditions often present challenges. Terme Group, a company specialising in swimming pool construction, sought a solution to these problems and, in collaboration with Leier Hungária Kft.- prefabricated reinforced concrete swimming pool.
Prefabrication reduces the amount of work required on site
Reinforced concrete has long been a key material in swimming pool construction, as it provides a durable structure that is easy to renovate. A significant proportion of reinforced concrete swimming pools are still built using monolithic technology, whereby the structural elements are formworked and concreted on site.
However, this solution depends to a large extent on the quality of the on-site work and on weather conditions.
In the case of the prefabricated pool developed by Leier and Terme Group, the structural components are manufactured under operational conditions, which means the manufacturing process can be better controlled and the surface quality can be more consistent.
This innovative technology is not only unique in Hungary but is also considered a novelty in Europe; its development took around one and a half years. The aim was to create a system that can be assembled on site in a short space of time, whilst maintaining the long service life of reinforced concrete structures.
The design of the joints presented the greatest technical challenge
During the development process, particular attention was paid to the connections between the prefabricated components, which must be able to safely withstand the loads caused by water pressure.
The prefabricated side walls are secured to the base panel delivered to the site using bolts, followed by the installation of the foil cladding. The positions of the mechanical components – such as lights and air vents – are already determined during the manufacturing process, which simplifies on-site assembly.
The Terme Group also offers a complete mechanical package for swimming pools, which is delivered to the site in a pre-assembled fibreglass installation box.
This pre-installed „sump”, which is also an innovation on the market, enables the pool to be commissioned exceptionally quickly. The mechanical package is tailored to the customer’s requirements and is available with a range of solutions, from simple chlorine-based water disinfection to skin-friendly salt-based disinfection technology.
The Leier pools are manufactured in standard sizes, with internal dimensions of 2.5×5 m, 3×6 m, 3.5×7 m and 3.5×8 m.
Each pool comes with a prefabricated ladder, and a bench and pool cover can also be ordered as optional extras.
Certain elements – such as the stairs or the positioning of the lighting – can be tailored to individual requirements. The appearance is also influenced by the various film finishes, which are available in a range of colours and surface textures. You can choose from nearly 30 different films for the pool lining, ranging from beige to anthracite and including a textured marble-effect finish.
On-site installation taking a few hours
One of the system’s key features is that the structural elements can be installed in a short space of time – in just 2–3 hours. The necessary groundworks are followed by the creation and compaction of a gravel bed, after which the base and side elements are put in place, followed by the mechanical system and the plastic sheeting.
The use of prefabricated technology avoids the need for on-site concreting and reduces the amount of on-site work required for construction.
Elements manufactured under factory conditions ensure a consistent surface finish, which is more difficult to achieve with traditional on-site construction.
The company also offers the Leier impregnated 20×60-centimetre covering for the pools, which matches the company’s paving stones and other landscaping elements in terms of design and colour scheme.
During the on-site survey carried out prior to the order, our specialists also draw up recommendations regarding the design of the surroundings to ensure that the pool blends in well with the existing outdoor environment.
