Cycle path built from the shores of Lake Balaton to the famous spa of Somogy
The cycle path between Fonyód and Buzsák-Csisztapuszta has been completed in recent days, with the second, southern section of the route having been finished in the last few days, according to the local council of Fonyód. The first, northern section, which starts directly from the Balaton Cycle Route, was constructed by SWIETELSKY Magyarország Kft. – we wrote about the project in detail in the summer of 2022 we wrote in detail about the project. The second phase, which has now been completed, was built by Colas Út Zrt., which we reported on here.
With a total net cost of HUF 218 million, the municipality expects the cycle path to
- has a positive impact on employment by promoting worker mobility,
- meet the needs of cycling tourists during the summer tourist season,
- will further improve the accessibility of the Csisztafürdő, famous for its thermal waters,
- and contribute to extending the season.
The distance between Fonyód and Csiszta is only five kilometres, but in the past it was twenty-five kilometres to get from one village to the other
- said Lajos Kara, Mayor of Buzsák. He added that the asphalted road through beautiful landscapes can be used even in bad weather conditions, facilitates commuting and promotes a sporty lifestyle.
Fonyód will be closer to the interior of Somogy
József Hidvégi, mayor of Fonyód, stressed that thanks to the road, the people of Buzsák and Táska will be "much closer to Fonyód", so they will not necessarily have to go shopping in Marcali.
It is important not only to make bathing on Lake Balaton a tourist programme, but also to open up other opportunities for guests, the mayor said, stressing that the investment could give a new impetus to cycling tourism.
The statement of the municipality of Fonyod also quoted Attila József Móring, Member of Parliament of the region, who stressed:
The ultimate goal was to end the shanty town character of Buzsák, and with the bicycle path we have made a significant step in this direction, the village has opened up towards Lake Balaton.
