Traffic in the Kecskemét area has been boosted by two new bridges

Traffic has started on two new flyovers on the M44, according to Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium, the investor of the project. The two structures were built on the westernmost section of the motorway, which is being built by Hódút Építő Kft. between Kecskemét and Szentkirály.

Two 50-metre single-span bridges built

A total of 14 bridges are being built on the 32.2-kilometre stretch, of which the two bridges in question were opened to traffic on 11 June. According to the ÉKM:

• one of the structures was built on the Csongrádi road leading out of Nagykőrös, and crosses the M44 with a 49-metre-long single-arch flyover;
• and the other was built on the main road 441, which is crossed by a separate level crossing of the M44. Here, the on- and off-ramps are connected to the main road by a roundabout, and a 50.16-metre-long single-span bridge has been built over the M44.

Nearly 100 km of new motorway completed so far

The handover of the overpasses will enable the demolition of the existing road sections next to the new bridges and the continuation of the construction of the M44 motorway. Parallel to the construction of the M44, the reinforcement of main road 441 is also underway in the construction of Colas Út Zrt., where the main road has been completed on the outlying sections. Thus, with the opening of the overpass, traffic between Nagykőrös and Katonatelep has become unimpeded.

Work on the M44 motorway has been ongoing since 2016. So far, a total of 93 km of the four-lane expressway has been completed between Szentkirály and Békéscsaba, connecting Békéscsaba to the expressway network.
