Road building
The new road in Rákosmente is ready, the centre of the district is relieved of congestion
The long-awaited road construction project in Rákosmente, Budapest's 17th district, has been completed. The Gödöllő-based Penta General Construction Kft. Budapest Capital City XVII District Rákosmente Local Government, built a relief road largely on a route where previously there was only a dirt road. According to an announcement made by rakosmente.hu at the beginning of the month, motorists have already started using the extended Vidor Street. announcement.
Easier transport within the district
The works began in April 2023. The aim of the project was to reduce traffic on an important section of Pesti Road and in the inner areas of the district. Now that the development is complete, local residents from Rákosliget and Rákoscsaba-Újtelep can also reach the city centre more quickly.
The development, worth around HUF 2 billion in total, involved work at two main sites:
- the new section of Vidor Street between Crossroad and Rétifarkas Street has been constructed,
- and modernised the previously used route of Vidor Street between Rétifarkas Street and Cinkotai Road.
We were informed about the details of the project by the staff of Penta Kft.. We learned that the Keresztúri út junction has been modernised over a length of 275 metres: the roadway has been widened, a separate right-turn lane has been built from Pesti út and a separate left-turn lane from the X. district. In addition, traffic management with traffic lights, marked pedestrian crossings and a cycle crossing have been installed. The entire junction has been resurfaced with new asphalt: where widened, new road surfaces have been built.
More than 1 km of new roads built
A completely new road, totalling 1115 metres in length and 7 metres in width, with a sunken kerb on both sides and a gravel shoulder, was opened between Crossroads Road and Rétifarkas Street. Trees, shrubs and perennial plants have been planted alongside the new road. (see main picture)
Previously, a shorter section of this road was hard surfaced and a longer section was dirt road, where Penta Kft. built a new track structure throughout. On the X side, a paved sidewalk was constructed on the X side, and on the XVII side, a paved sidewalk-bicycle path was constructed from the Keresztúrri road to the Euro-Profil Kft. site, in addition to several other tasks.
The road bridge over the Rákos creek has been completely rebuilt: before the project started, it was a single-lane crossing, which was widened to two lanes (7 metres wide) by pile foundation and a footpath was built. The concrete pavement around the bridge and the concrete embankment along the stream have been restored and stormwater drainage has been carried out by Penta Kft..
How the junction at the end of the section was renovated
The junction Vidor street - Cinkotai road was also rebuilt: 280 metres of work were carried out here: the track was widened and two separate left turn lanes were created from Cinkotai road. This junction has also been equipped with traffic lights, and pedestrian crossings and cycle crossings have been provided on all branches. The entire junction was resurfaced with a new asphalt wearing course and the widening work included the construction of a full road structure.
Compared to the previous project, the Cinkotai road cycle track at the junction has only changed slightly, and the road on the eastern side of the junction was rebuilt at the same time as Vidor street, as part of another project. Finally, at the Vidor Street - Cinkotai Road junction, the bus stops on both the west and east sides were paved with basalt concrete and the bus stop on the west side was relocated.
