Asphalt works on the entire section of the M4 between Törökszentmiklós and Kisújszállás

Work on the 34.29-kilometre section of the M4 motorway between Törökszentmiklós and Kisújszállás proceeded according to schedule in 2024, which will relieve traffic congestion in Fegyvernek, Kenderes and Kisújszállás. The road, half of which will be built on a new route, will be constructed as part of the Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium investment and the Duna Aszfalt Project Zrt.. Investment in the new road

• Between Törökszentmiklós and Kisújszállás, a new 17.5-kilometre route will be built,
• 8.1 kilometres at the Turökszentmiklós bypass;
• and at the Kisújszállás bypass, the existing dual carriageway will be widened by 8.7 km.

Miklós Nicoara, the head of the construction department, informed us about the details of the construction. On the section of the M4 motorway bypassing Törökszentmiklós, the construction and widening of the right lane was progressing according to plan until the winter shutdown. During the works, traffic was diverted to the newly completed left lane. Once the wearing course has been built and the traffic engineering has been completed, the concept will be re-routed to complete the left-hand lane, probably in spring next year.

The crushed stone base is almost complete along the entire route

The chief construction manager emphasised: „With the exception of a few shorter sections totalling approximately 2 km, the construction of the FZKA road base has been completed along the entire 34 km route.”

Asphalt works continued until the end of 2024: "The entire section was paved with a 9 cm thick AC-16 binding layer mI base course. The construction of the 9 cm thick AC-22 mI first binding course and the 7 cm thick AC-22 mI second binding course was continuous, with a completion rate of approximately 60 %."

The asphalt works will be closely followed by the construction of the embankment, the finalisation of the construction of the gullies, the humming of the gullies, the grassing of the gullies and the landscaping of the external areas. "As regards storm water drainage, the culverts, longitudinal drains and cross channels of the main track and crossing roads have been completed, while the construction of drainage ditches, embankments and surrantos is still under way," the Chief Architect said.

Miklós Nicoara also said:

"On the new 17.5 km of track and connecting structures between the Törökszentmiklós bypass and the Kisújszáll bypass, embankment works and the construction of the upper 1 m earthwork layer have been completed."

Exceptions are two road crossings, where work can resume after the spring diversions.

Road works will start next year at the Surjány rest area

Except for the asphalt wearing course and traffic engineering, the right track of the Kisújszállás bypass between the railway high loads was completed for a length of about 4.5 km, and the construction of the FZKA road base and asphalt base course around the railway high loads was also completed.

The contractor's tasks also include the construction of a simple rest area in Surjány, where earthworks, stormwater drainage and utility works have already been completed. "Here, after the protective layer has been built, the road base construction, edging and asphalting works will start in 2025," added Miklós Nicoara.

The Kisújszállás junction is 80 percent complete

The construction manager also informed us about the construction process of the intersections: "The construction works of the road base and asphalt base layer of the intersection branches in the Armenian intersection were already completed in November, and the construction of the CKT road base on the intersecting road 4204 has also started. At the beginning of December, the construction of the kerbs for the two roundabouts at the intersection also started."

The specialist said about the junction and complex rest area in Kisújszállás: "The curbing works on the left side are completed, the asphalt binder course construction is at the completion of about 80%, on the right side the earthwork and road base construction works have started."

The street lighting at the Törökszentmiklós junction is now ready

Among the utility works completed

• the gas replacement works,
• drinking water, waste water and electricity substructure works,
• the street lighting at the junction in Törökszentmiklós, which is expected to be connected to the network at the end of the project.

The construction will also include a Business Communication System, the substructure works and the power supply system are currently at 85 %. The foundation works for the portal structures above the main track have also started.

The project also includes the rehabilitation of five connecting roads

Two of them have already been completed and the technical handover procedure has been completed.

These are:

• the road 32126 connecting Óballa;
• and the road 42103 (Kossuth Street in Turökszentmiklós - ed.) between the crossing of the main road 46 and the junction in Turökszentmiklós for 2.5 km.

Finishing work has already started on several bridges

We were informed about the construction of the works on the section of the M4 currently under construction by Attila Duleba, the chief architect. As we learned:

The superstructure of the intersection structures of Örményes, Örményes and Kisújszállás is completed, the connection of the roadway structure to the bridges and the construction of the finishing works have started.

The steel girders for the wildlife crossing on the Kisújszáll side of the Nagykunság Main Canal Bridge have been completed and their on-site installation has started.

The trackbed of the B1264 wildlife crossing and the Nagykunság Main Canal Bridge was completed by mid-December. The track slabs on the crossing structures of the Törökszentmiklós bypass and the railway structures of the Kisújszállás bypass are completed, and the construction of the finishing works on the latter is also progressing.
