Road building
Road decongestion plans for Salgótarján could be ready this year
Work is underway on the possibilities of relieving road congestion in Salgótarján in the Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium (ÉKM), as informed by József Pántya, Deputy State Secretary for Road and Railway Construction. He announced that the plans will be finalised in the third quarter.
Two interchanges could build a relief road
In December last year, János Lázár, Minister of Construction and Transport, visited Salgótarján to discuss the construction of a 16-kilometre bypass road, the four-lane Highway 21, which will be extended to the Slovakian border.
In this context, József Pántya informed the assembly that a feasibility study is being prepared to review the documentation prepared in the past. The Deputy State Secretary said that the relief road could be built with two interchanges. The traffic figures do not justify the construction of a two-lane dual carriageway, but in the long term it is worth considering a two-lane dual carriageway, because the multipliers indicate that 15-16 000 vehicles are expected to be on the road by 2053.
Designers are working on the feasibility study
In his briefing ÉKM also pointed out that at 17,000 vehicle traffic, we should start thinking about a two-lane road instead of a single lane, and at 20,000, a two-lane road "has its place". József Pántya said that a two-lane road would cost 382 billion forints, while a two-lane road would cost 270 billion forints for a 16-kilometre stretch. He said planners are working on the feasibility study, which will be completed in the third quarter, and the final result will be reported again in Salgótarján.
The development of Route 21 connecting Salgótarján and Hatvan was completed in 2019. People living in the area waited nearly two decades for the project to be fully implemented. The widening of the first sections of main road 21 began in 2002 with the construction of the overtaking sections. A total of 53 kilometres of road was renewed in several phases. The last two project elements were carried out by the Swietelsky Magyarország Kft., HE-DO Kft. and KM Építő Kft. consortium. With this development, Salgótarján became accessible from the M3 motorway via a four-lane road along its entire length.
The four-lane expansion of Route 21 was completed in seventeen years
