The 100 billion forint project has begun: the public procurement tender for demolition work to improve access to Liszt Ferenc Airport has been published. The 11.8 billion forint framework agreement is expected to serve the preparation of the future new road.

We recently we wrote that the government had decided on an investment worth 1,000 billion forints affecting Budapest: in addition to the construction of Terminal 3 at Liszt Ferenc International Airport, a new railway line and expressway will be built according to the plans, creating a direct connection between downtown Budapest and the airport.

As announced at the time, the new road will be built on an 11 km section between the outer part of Üllői út and the airport, with an investment of €500 million. The finalisation of the implementation plans is underway. Construction may take two to two and a half years.

Now, the first step in this huge project, a public procurement tender, has been published on TED: A contractor is being sought for demolition work on structures affected by the project, which is necessary to improve road access to the airport, under a framework agreement worth 11.8 billion forints.

169 buildings to be demolished

As they write, there are approximately 169 buildings with a total volume of approximately 341,000 cubic metres, of which at least 30 are at least 500 cubic metres in size. Six buildings will have to be partially demolished. The contractor will have to complete the work within two years. The tasks include, among other things

  • preparation of technical documentation for the survey;
  • conducting the demolition permit procedure;
  • numerous different demolition tasks, taking into account reuse;
  • transportation and disposal of waste and construction and demolition debris;
  • transportation and disposal of municipal solid waste;
  • reinforcement and construction of building foundations;
  • as well as preparing a structural assessment report.

Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium will accept bids until 12 noon on 12 December.
