Bosch wins a centre for creative thinking in Budapest

Published

The Construction Excellence Award-winning project was not just about volume, but also about the unparalleled solutions in the general construction of the Market and the execution of the Óbuda Group.

On 19 April, the unveiling ceremony for the Construction Industry Quality Award plaque was held at the Bosch Budapest Innovation Campus. The contractor for the investment was Market Építő Zrt., and the project manager was Óbuda Group, while CÉH Zrt. was responsible for the design. The complex was recognised in the Industrial and Energy Building /R&D/ category at the 2023 Construction Industry Quality Award competition.

Uniquely equipped vehicle verification area and test hall

As we have previously reported we wrote earlier, the 90,000-square-metre campus will be home to 1,800 new-generation workplaces. The facility also includes 14,000 square metres of instrumented research and testing laboratories. Its most striking feature is the eight-storey office building, alongside which the laboratory buildings, the energy centre and a multi-storey car park have also been constructed.

In addition, an important part of the new campus is the 10,000 square metre instrumented vehicle verification area, which is uniquely equipped to test vehicles' ultrasonic, radar and camera-based driver assistance systems on a wide range of road surfaces in a variety of simulation situations. Another important element of the campus is the test hall, which can accommodate several trucks at the same time, where passenger and truck vehicles are developed and tested using precision giant measuring chambers.

A big step in the life of the Bosch not only in Hungary

Speaking at Friday's event, Silárd Gyurka, Head of Bosch's Construction Projects Planning and Implementation Department, said, "The opening of the Bosch Budapest Innovation Campus was an important step in the life of the Bosch Group not only in Hungary but also internationally. It is the largest automotive development centre in Europe outside Germany. The project was complex and challenging. The successful implementation is due to the fact that we were able to work together with our partners, to think and work together."

Zoltán Virág, representing the Construction Industry Award Committee, said that he had been involved in the construction and design of many office buildings in the past, but this project gave him a lot of new experiences and a lot of new things. He stressed that the building was designed in BIM, but that the advantages of BIM were also used in the construction. He also emphasised sustainability and proximity to nature, as well as the human-centredness of the building.

Office, industrial and logistics space had to be created

On behalf of Óbuda Group, Miklós Csanády, director, recalled that the building contract was won on the 30th anniversary of their company. "We learned a lot during its implementation, for which we are very grateful to our clients." Looking back, he said, Covid brought a whole new set of methods and experiences, and in addition, they had to ensure constant communication with a German project manager. "All of this was achieved in an exemplary manner, thanks to our client's innovative and flexible approach, and we have benefited a lot from this experience ever since."

On behalf of Market Építő, Dániel Szabó, technical director, said that Market was responsible for the complete interior work, the entire façade construction, the roofing works, as well as the mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems. Market also constructed the bridge connecting the old and the new building. "In terms of area and complexity, the building is in the same league as the Telekom headquarters and MOL Campus," he pointed out.

"The piquancy of the project is that it is not just an office, but also a research and development facility. For this reason, we have in fact made industrial investments in a number of rooms, squeezed into rooms, with the logistics to support this."

Spaces for creative thinking

The award-winning building was unveiled at the gala last December, which we featured earlier this year, and the laudation highlights the sustainability and nature-friendly solutions of the new campus.

They also praised the fact that the building complex is organised around a central green space, with a pond in front of the main entrance.

"In the office towers, the office spaces are built around an internal service core, their furnishings and design stimulate creative thinking and inspire staff" - the laudation concluded.
