The Szolnok base of the Hungarian Defence Forces’ 86th József Kiss Helicopter Brigade has been expanded with a new, multi-purpose hangar complex. The construction work was carried out by specialists from ZÁÉV Építőipari Zrt..

Another defence project has been completed. Following the Tata Armoured Brigade, this time Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky inaugurated new facilities at the helicopter brigade in Szolnok. At the event, the Minister of Defence emphasised that Szolnok is a military town and a key Hungarian base, one of the bastions of military development. He added that, as a result of cooperation with the Airbus factory, Hungary’s helicopter fleet has been renewed. Following the helicopters, the 21st-century hangar complex can now be handed over as a fitting home for them.

A modern building stock supports the brigade

The development project, carried out by ZÁÉV, was launched in June 2023, and the first phase saw the creation of a comprehensive infrastructure covering the entire operational chain.
As part of the investment, a 16-bay maintenance hangar, a search and rescue service building and hangar, and a maintenance and repair hangar were built, complemented by a new facility for the aircraft maintenance battalion and a dedicated warehouse.

Specialised service facilities have been built

The project encompasses not only buildings but also state-of-the-art supporting infrastructure: a new transformer station and specialised support facilities will underpin operations.

Operation and maintenance will become more efficient

A key element of the development is the significant expansion of the facilities required to service aircraft. New parking bays have been constructed, enabling the efficient accommodation and servicing of the expanded helicopter fleet. The facilities have been designed to meet modern operational and maintenance requirements, with particular emphasis on rapid response, the provision of technical support and continuous availability.
Present at the event and delivering welcoming speeches were Lieutenant General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Defence Staff, and Colonel Krisztián Kovács, Commander of the Hungarian Defence Forces’ 86th József Kiss Helicopter Brigade.
