Thousands of megawatts in two blocks
A new base-load power plant may be built in Hungary after a decade and a half, which will play an important role in strengthening security of supply and energy transition, as it will help balance renewable electricity production and contribute to the country's energy independence
- said the Energy Minister on the occasion of the event. Csaba Lantos added that once the commercial operation starts, the 1000 megawatt power plant, consisting of two units, will be able to produce an average of 7500 gigawatt hours of electricity per year.
New power plant on old site
According to the CEO of MVM Csoport, the project will open a new era in power generation in Eastern Hungary, as it will replace the previously closed conventional power plant with a modern, flexible generation capacity.
The Tiszaújváros power plant will be capable of almost half the capacity of the Paks nuclear power plant, and will build on the existing electrical grid connection, cooling water system and nearby natural gas connection. The favourable infrastructure could boost the region's economy," said Károly Mátrai, stressing that preliminary surveys show that the vast majority of people in the area support the development.
