KSH data: signs of recovery in the sector

According to raw data, the volume of construction output in May 2025 was 3.6 percent higher than a year earlier, or 5.5 percent higher when adjusted for the working day factor, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Monday.

Among the main construction groups, the output of construction of buildings was 9.3% lower and that of other construction 26.0% higher. Based on seasonally and working-day adjusted indices, construction output was 2.5 percent above April 2025.

Number of new contracts increased

Compared to the same month of the previous year, the volume of production in May was 12.1 percent higher in the construction of buildings and 28.5 percent higher in the construction of other structures. Output in the largest sector, specialised construction, fell by 13.3 percent.

The HCSO said that the volume of new contracts signed increased by 17.0%, of which contracts for the construction of buildings decreased by 7.5% and those for the construction of other buildings increased by 51.0%.

The volume of construction contracts at the end of May was 11.5 percent higher than a year earlier, with contracts for the construction of buildings 9.4 percent lower and those for other construction 29.3 percent higher than in May 2024.
