Robust, yet effortlessly conquering - an innovative retaining wall system for the Hungarian construction industry

One of the latest products from Leier is already popular in Austria and other Western European countries, significantly exceeding the aesthetic and technical parameters of traditional formwork retaining walls. With the help of the manufacturer, our magazine obtained detailed information about the Leier Easyblock modular retaining wall system, which represents a forward-looking solution.

The Leier report submitted to us presents a product developed in Europe and now present in eight European countries, which is manufactured exclusively by Leier Hungária Kft. in Hungary.

More than twenty elements to choose from

The modular retaining wall system has been designed to provide maximum flexibility in the construction of retaining walls and retaining walls. The product has been specifically developed to facilitate and speed up on-site works - whether for industrial or residential applications. "By using the building block principle, the elements can be assembled quickly and accurately: the construction of the Leier Easyblock retaining wall takes only a few days," one of the main advantages was pointed out.

A further advantage is that you can choose from a total of more than 20 different geometries of elements, greatly increasing the range of possibilities and individual solutions. Easyblock elements can also be used to build retaining walls up to 4 metres high.

It can be used for everything from family houses to cycle paths and railways

The product is a good solution for both vertical and tilted retaining walls. "It adapts flexibly to the terrain, allowing the creation of corners, stairs, stepped supports and even curved structures," says the presentation. "In particular, the trapezoidal elements facilitate the realisation of curved forms, which is a great advantage in landscape architecture and for specific needs."

Its versatility is demonstrated by the fact that the system is suitable for landscaping both single-family homes and condominiums, as well as for landscaping and gardens. On a larger scale, it can be used to create retaining walls along cycle paths, but it is also ideal for road and railway construction, providing slopes, embankments and waterfront protection. It can also be used for public spaces or parks, and for the rapid construction of temporary or mobile structures.

The self-weight, precision and grooves ensure that no adhesive is needed

Another advantage is the ease of handling: although the weight of the elements is considerable - ranging from 178 kg to 1190 kg - the system is designed so that no special machinery or expertise is required to move them. In fact, the range comprises base, standard and top elements that fit together precisely through a groove-and-pin connection. The load-bearing capacity of the system is a combination of the weight of the elements themselves and their precise fit, so no glue or other bonding material is required to achieve stability.

The robust, rugged elements are made from C30/37 compressive strength class concrete using state-of-the-art, reusable moulds. This not only makes them strong, durable and weather-resistant, but also gives them a uniform, attractive surface appearance: special concrete casting technology gives them a subtle, natural look that blends in well with the environment.

Subsidised planning reduces construction waste

The Leier team of experts provides important support to help you reap the benefits listed above, from the very start of your project preparation. "We also provide state-of-the-art quantity surveying and modelling software to enable accurate planning," says Leier's technical material.

"A detailed design is made based on basic parameters such as the height and length of the retaining wall, the slope of the terrain, the ground conditions or the customer's specific requirements. This includes not only the type and quantity of elements required, but also information on the layout and technical parameters of the retaining wall."

Thanks to careful planning, sustainability is also a key consideration: only the floors needed for the project are delivered and installed on site, so there is no waste. Furthermore, the technology means that no formwork material is wasted.

One of the best examples of modern construction thinking

The product is already a frequently used technical solution for construction sites in Austria and the Czech Republic, but it is still a novelty in Hungary. Production of the Leier started this year in Jánossomorje, from where it is also supplied to Austria, but there is also a steady demand for it in Hungary. "For orders already delivered, all the benefits described in the presentation have been confirmed by the realisation of the project," said the Leier specialist in response to our question.
