One of the largest electricity substations in the country inaugurated
With the commissioning of the Nyíregyháza-Nyírjes substation in the first phase of the Nyíregyháza Industrial Park's electricity supply network development, 184 MVA of electricity is now available in the industrial park, according to a press release.
As described, the additional 140 MVA required in Phase 2 of the project will become available by 2028, upon completion of the underlying network upgrades. The grid upgrades, which have been implemented with state support and domestic funding of more than HUF 18.2 billion, are an integral part of the national electricity supply system, they add.
The development will serve the new industrial zone of Nyíregyháza
The Nyíregyháza-Nyírjes substation, developed by OPUS TITÁSZ, was brought to life by increased industrial consumer demand. Several major foreign investors are building factories in Nyíregyháza's new industrial park, including the South Korean W-Scope and the German-based Boysen group. The biggest new entrant to the park is China's Sunwoda which is building its first European battery plant here with a total investment of HUF 580 billion.
The newly inaugurated development started in the summer of 2023, the 132/22 kV substation was built with 2 high-voltage busbar systems, 22 high-voltage fields and 27 medium-voltage fields to ensure that OPUS TITÁSZ Zrt. can provide the appropriate, high quality electricity supply to the companies settling in the Nyíregyháza Industrial Park.
32 kilometres of transmission lines built across the M3 motorway
This substation is a large-scale development, capable of providing 324 MVA of power," the statement stresses. This is equivalent to the simultaneous power supply of 160,000 households. A total of 243 MVA will be made available at high voltage (132 kV) in two phases - 103 MVA in the first phase and a further 140 MVA in the second phase - while 81 MVA will be provided at medium voltage (22 kV).
The double-strand high-voltage transmission line connected to the Nyíregyháza-Nyírjes substation was built starting from the MAVIR "Buj" 400/132 kV substation and extending for a total of more than 32 kilometres, including a section crossing the M3 motorway, where the height of the supporting structure reaches 47.8 metres in places.
The new substation is a prerequisite for further expansion of the industrial park
The inauguration ceremony of the new substation was attended by Minister of Energy Csaba Lantos, Mayor Ferenc Kovács of Nyíregyháza, Lőrinc Mészáros, owner of Mészáros Csoport and Balázs Torda, CEO of OPUS TITÁSZ Zrt..
Csaba Lantos, Minister of Energy, said at the inauguration of the substation that "In Eastern Hungary, large investments that create jobs are coming on stream one after the other. The rapid electrification and the rapid expansion of green energy producers mean that we also need to increase the capacity and flexibility of the electricity network. The government is providing hundreds of billions of forints to support the construction and expansion of substations and transmission lines, and to strengthen energy storage capacities."
Lőrinc Mészáros, the owner of Mészáros Csoport, stressed, among other things, that the substation was completed on time, to the highest quality standards and in exemplary cooperation
"The new substation is a prerequisite for the further expansion of the industrial park and the arrival of new businesses and investments, which will strengthen the competitiveness of Nyíregyháza in the long term. The increased capacities will create new industrial jobs and make the energy supply for local residents more secure and modern."
- said Ferenc Kovács, Mayor of Nyíregyháza.
