Nyugati takes a big step forward: a modern lift replaces the disused one

From Monday, passengers will be able to use the new platform lift at Nyugati railway station, which will provide unobstructed access to the underpass from the station area, according to a statement by MÁV Zrt.. The old platform lift was replaced by Magyar Építő Zrt..

As previously reported, the renovation of the passenger hall, roof and façade of Nyugati station was completed in several phases. Completed by Magyar Építő Zrt. in 2023, the works included the reconstruction of the main facade section, the facade towers and the main staircase.

Built with a one-tonne load-bearing steel structure

At the Nyugati station, the sub-project just completed is the replacement of the disused platform lift built to access the underpass. As part of this, a new Magyar Építő vandal-proof, shaft-mounted, electrically powered, steel girder lift with a load capacity of 1000 kg, suitable for transporting wheelchairs and pushchairs with reduced mobility, has been installed.

Replacement of the station's platform lift began last August. The lift is being built by MÁV, financed by the national budget and the European Union under the Széchenyi 2020 programme.
