The West Railway Station's new underpass has been opened

The renovation of the Nyugati station crossing has been completed, and the new gantry leading to the platforms is now open to passengers, MÁV reported.

The renovation of the crossing connecting the WestEnd (tracks 1-9) with the Cegléd station, i.e. tracks 14-17, started in August 2023 and continued from autumn with a full closure. The renovation included the complete replacement of the suspended ceiling and the floor covering in the underpass, including lighting fixtures, new electrical network, drainage, and the renewal of the wall cladding and the set of side doors with the old stairs.

On the walls are detailed drawings of the Nyugati station plans, such as the tower and the façade, giving the corridor a unique atmosphere. A tactile lane in the crossing and Braille on the railings help to ensure barrier-free access. With the completion of the works, the temporary toilets next to the cash desks were also closed and the toilets behind the new entrance were opened.

The refurbishment of the crossing and the replacement of the platform lift was carried out by MÁV, financed by the national budget and the European Union under the Széchenyi 2020 programme. The renovation of the crossing was carried out by Mega-Logistic Zrt..
