MCC plans its second education centre in Szeged

The Mathias Corvinus Collegium Alapítvány plans to establish a new educational centre. MCC would transform the former Szeged Chamber of Commerce and Bartók Cultural Centre building in accordance with its own principles and training concepts. According to the announcement published in the European Public Procurement Bulletin, the property at 3 Vörösmarty Street is classified as a historic monument and public building.

The project will involve functional changes in some areas of the facility.

The "Nobel Prize-winning apartment" on the mezzanine level will be converted into a representative classroom, the public bathroom will be relocated, the lobby will be connected to the square facing Deák Ferenc Street and a staircase will connect it to the ground floor.

On the first floor, the four two-person dormitory rooms will be replaced by a single-space office, while the gallery level will be used for meeting rooms and lockers. On the second floor, the dormitory function will be retained with minimal changes, and a new communal kitchenette will be added to the corridor.

In the attic, dormitories will be replaced by classrooms and an adjacent bathroom block, and a larger glass area will be opened up to the inner courtyard. On the basement level, the fitness room in the side wing will be replaced by a kitchen and staff changing rooms and showers, and a restaurant reception area will be created.  

The contracting authority points out that the building is located in an area of historic interest and is a nationally protected monument.

This will be the second MCC headquarters in Szeged 

The Mathias Corvinus Collegium Foundation already has a training centre in Szeged, at Tisza Lajos krt. 85., this is planned to be the second one, if the investment is realised.

The MCC is the most important talent management institution in the Carpathian Basin, which has been active since 1996. It runs free, high-quality, public talent management programmes from primary school to adult age. The Foundation provides training in its institutions for gifted students in upper primary, secondary and higher education, or for young adults who have already graduated, enabling them to perform better in the traditional education system.  

The MCC has also saved values by establishing its rural centres. By creating talent centres, it renovates and preserves buildings with a long history, but often in poor condition, neglected or disused. The investments will restore these properties to their former central role in the city.
