A livestock breeding centre in Békéscsaba, one of the best in Europe, was inaugurated
A pig farm has been built on the outskirts of Békéscsaba with a budget of almost six billion forints, where 25 thousand slaughter pigs are sold annually
- the investor NAGISZ-csoport said on Thursday.
The facility, which cost HUF 5.9 billion and received HUF 2.166 billion in state subsidies, was built by Bodrogi Bau Kft. in Hódmezővásárhely. The facility consists of four livestock buildings covering an area of more than 14,000 square metres and was built using technology that is considered to be among the most modern in Europe.
Overwhelmingly producing for the domestic market
Every 9 weeks, 64 breeding sows arrive at the site from the NAGISZ pig farm in Nádudvar, which reach their selling weight of around 115 kilograms in 116 days of rearing. It is planned to sell 2900 tonnes of pigs a year, with 80-85% of the animals going to the domestic market, said farm manager László Lapos.
Pigs are already in three of the four buildings and will arrive in the fourth in two weeks.
Automatic ventilation and feeding system installed
An automated ventilation and feeding system has been installed on the farm, with central air diffusers feeding fresh air, tempered in both winter and summer, into the ducts under the floor, where it is fed to the animals through air intake columns at a controlled rate and volume.
Used air is removed from the compartments by exhaust fans. This ensures that the appetite of the animals is maintained even in the heat of summer," explained László Lapos. The centre, which has its own waterworks, employs 12 people.
