This plastics factory in Tolna has taken a big step towards a circular economy

Vertikál Group Nyrt., a plastics and environmental management company, has completed an energy, infrastructure and technology upgrade of almost HUF 2.5 billion at its plant in Dombóvár. This will enable the company to be among the first in the Hungarian environmental management market to apply the concept of the circular economy.

The development will also recycle materials for disposal

According to a company statement, a project to be completed in April will enable the company to reduce the amount of plastic raw materials it uses. In the future, Vertikál will focus on the use of recycled materials produced using its own technology.

The technological development will also help to keep materials in circulation, raw materials management, most of which would be landfilled or destroyed without further use, they wrote.

Solar panels provide the plant's energy needs

The upgrade, which began in spring 2022, was designed to significantly reduce the plant's environmental impact and ensure sustainable, energy-efficient operations in the long term. According to the company, 50 percent of the investment was financed by self-financing and a bank loan, and 50 percent by the Economic Development and Innovation Operational Programme plus conditionally reimbursable grants.

The conversion of the 4,580 square metres of real estate has resulted in a change of function in the factory buildings. In addition, a hybrid solar system with a peak output of 355 kilowatts was installed to meet the energy needs of both production and the buildings within the plant.

They manage the waste of a million people

The company also said that from 1 July 2023, in cooperation with MOHU MOL Hulladékgazdálkodási Zrt., it will provide services to more than one million inhabitants in five regions, in more than 300 municipalities. They also operate more than 30 waste treatment facilities, covering almost the entire spectrum of waste recovery and disposal.

They also recalled that last July the company handed over a logistics unit of almost 2,400 square metres in the Alba Industrial Zone in Székesfehérvár. In February, the company listed its shares on the Budapest Stock Exchange's mid-cap platform BÉT Xtend to support its growth plans, and further strengthened its capital market presence in November with a private placement. Vertikál Group, which employs almost 400 people, ended the year with a 21 percent increase in its share price, one of the largest increases on the BÉT Xtend market.

In 2022, the company had a net turnover of HUF 7 billion 449 million and a profit after tax of HUF 797 million, with the majority of its turnover coming from plastics manufacturing.
