The MOL giant investment was handed over in Tiszaújváros
The chemical complex built in cooperation between MOL and ThyssenKrupp was officially handed over in Tiszaújváros on 14 May. The foundation stone of the facility, which had been in planning since 2017, was laid in September 2019 and will have an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes.
The €1.3 billion investment will make the Mol Group the only integrated polyol producer in Central and Eastern Europe. The facility covers an area of 35 hectares and 350 designers have worked on the construction of the industrial complex.
In Tiszaújváros, polyol plastics are produced, which are intermediate products: the raw materials for the so-called polyurethane beans, from which important plastics used in the construction industry are also made. In addition, these compounds are often used in the automotive industry, which is particularly important for the Hungarian economy, as well as in the furniture and packaging industries.
The presentation ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Hernádi Zsolt, CEO of Mol and Ilse Henne, member of the Board of Thyssenkrupp, and Zsófia Koncz, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy.
In his speech, the Prime Minister stressed that Mol has become Hungary's most valuable, multi-legged company. He added:
With the implementation of the Poliol Complex, Mol has not only moved up the production chain, but has itself become a complete production chain, as it has created a chemical complex in Tiszaújváros, where it transforms the produced and processed raw materials into finished products, while at the same time it is also involved in transportation.
