Family-friendly accommodation and sports fields built in the scenic national monument

The family-friendly investments were completed in four years, with HUF 3.4 billion provided by the Hungarian Tourism Agency.
The handover ceremony was attended by Miklós Soltész, Minister of State for Religious and Ethnic Relations of the Prime Minister's Office, who spoke, among other things, about the fact that Szentkút has been a place of pilgrimage for almost 300 years and its presence has been recorded for 800 years. In 2006, it was declared a national shrine by decision of the episcopate, and in 2020 a national monument, he added. Three hundred thousand pilgrims visit the pilgrimage site every year.

Apartment blocks designed for families

Over the past four years, 16 family apartment buildings, a 114 square metre indoor community space and a 345 kilowatt solar power plant have been built.

The houses are designed for families and include a bathroom, kitchen and two bedrooms.

The Calvary Chapel was enlarged with a 456-seat urn cemetery, separate waste bins were installed in the shrine area, two playgrounds and a multifunctional sports field for children were built, an indoor playroom was created and the large parking lot was renewed.
In addition, thousands of square metres of new roads have been paved and 627 saplings have been planted in the sanctuary.

Many people visit the shrine for non-religious reasons

With the addition of the family apartments, Szentkút is now able to accommodate 200 guests, and the developments are expected to further increase the number of guests.

At the ceremony, Bishop András Veres, President of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference, stressed that many people come here for non-religious reasons, but those who are spiritually strengthened and purified at the shrine are better able to cope with their families and life.
Father Pius Berhidai, the Franciscan Provincial Superior, said the mission of the shrine is to lead the visitor back to a relationship with God.
At the beginning of the inauguration ceremony, the director of the shrine,
Loránt Orosz, said a prayer and thanked all those who had helped with the investment.
