A historic building of St John's Hospital is being renovated for a psychiatric unit
According to the announcement published in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin, Building No. 27 may be renovated under the supervision of the monument authority as part of the development of the North-Central Buda Centre, New St. John's Hospital and Outpatient Clinic, building No. 27 may be renovated under the supervision of the monument authority. The modernised complex will provide treatment for psychiatric patients. According to the announcement, the project is planned to be implemented with a budget of HUF 4.68 billion.
Extension of the basement for a library and gym
According to the published information, the building, with a usable floor space of nearly 5,400 square metres, will house a 101-bed psychiatric ward. The basement level will be extended towards the inner courtyards, which will house the library, the gym and the teaching kitchen. In addition, the contractor LATEREX Építő Zrt., which is responsible for the construction, must also build the storage rooms, changing rooms and mechanical and electrical rooms.
Inpatient and outpatient care on the ground floor
Three classrooms are planned to be moved to the ground floor of the building, which will have access to a garden. The Active ward will have 17 in-patient rooms and the common areas will be located in the east wing.
The psychotherapy ward will have 15 beds in the west wing. The northern wing of the ground floor will be used for outpatient care once the renovation is completed.
The modernised building services will be located in the attic
On the first floor of the building, a new active ward with a total of 24 beds will be added. The 21-bed Rehabilitation and Psychotherapy wards will also move to this floor.
The second floor will be converted for the Rehabilitation Department. The attic will house the mechanical equipment and two psychologist's offices.
The contractor will also carry out subsequent foundation work and demolition of load-bearing walls
During the construction work, 500 square metres of the ground floor and basement will be raised in the south courtyard. On the north side, the construction of two lifts will require excavation work. The works will also include the waterproofing of the building. During the extension of the monument block, the foundations will be deeper than the existing structure, so the contractor will also carry out subsequent underpinning work on the façade section.
