Nyíregyháza's high-tech industrial park is being built with great momentum
The southern industrial park of Nyíregyháza may be built in several phases, the first phase of which is Mészáros és Mészáros Zrt. consortium and the "KE-VÍZ 21" zRt. consortium and NYÍR-WETLAND Generál Zrt. consortium. We have previously reported that nearly 192 billion forints will be spent on developing the infrastructure of the southern industrial park in Nyíregyháza.
Automotive giants move here
South Korean W-Scope announced in October 2022 that it would establish a plant with an investment of HUF 300 billion to manufacture separator film used in electric car batteries, and in early 2023, the German-based Boysen Group began development here, with a HUF 60 billion investment to produce components for electric cars for the BMW's Debrecen factory. The park's largest tenant, the Chinese Sunwoda, announced last July that it would build its first European battery manufacturing plant here with a total investment of HUF 580 billion.
Huge freight traffic needed for development
Regarding the construction of the infrastructure, László Gaál, chief production engineer of the civil engineering office of „KE-VÍZ 21” zRt., said that the project "Road Construction and Public Utilities Construction", entitled "Road Construction and Public Utilities Construction", was launched on 8 April 2024, with the construction of the water utilities starting in the spring. This was followed by the road works, which will be followed by the laying of street lighting and communication cables.
"There are a number of challenges to overcome in the execution of the project, such as the need to pay special attention to organisation because of the simultaneous construction works; to ensure that the contractors working in the field interfere with each other as little as possible. Such special attention is also needed when utilities are being laid under the motorway." -
The plans for the current phase were drawn up by Főmterv Zrt. and "A" Studió 90 Kft., with earthworks costing HUF 9 billion and road and utility construction costing HUF 22 billion. As previously reported, the expansion of the Nyíregyháza industrial park was also prompted by Vabeko Kft. also participating in the expansion of the industrial park in Nyíregyháza. A particular difficulty is that large quantities of material have to be transported to the site, especially for road construction, which arrives at the same time as the materials needed for the factories under construction. This is a major challenge, given that the current road connections are not designed for this level of traffic.
As a result, there are significant traffic restrictions on Nagykálló and Debreceni streets due to the construction of the project. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2025 - after which the county seat will be enriched with the most advanced industrial park infrastructure in the region.
