Kaba's newly inaugurated solar power plant produces enough energy for 13,000 households

A Swiss company has expanded its energy portfolio in Hungary.

The MET Group has built its second solar power plant near a settlement in Hajdú-Bihar county, the company said on Wednesday. The power plant, with more than 33,000 solar panels, will cover the energy needs of almost 13,000 households.

The 23.4-megawatt complex was built using state-of-the-art technology and will have a lifespan of at least 30 years. MET's previous photovoltaic project was commissioned in 2021 in the town of Tiszántúl, allowing Kabai II. Solar Park to utilise the existing connection infrastructure.

They highlighted that solar energy is cheap and sustainable, and added that solar energy production in Hungary is growing rapidly, reaching 33 percent today.

According to the announcement, the Swiss-based MET Group is present in 15 countries, and its activities extend beyond the electricity market to include natural gas and the development of energy market instruments. Their Hungarian company, MET Hungary Solar Park Kft., closed with revenues of HUF 3.155 billion in 2022 and HUF 11.5 billion in 2023. Its after-tax profit last year was close to HUF 2.7 billion.
