Structural demolition starts next week in the Pázmány Campus project
Demolition works at the Pázmány Campus started on 31 July and have been on schedule ever since. Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium (ÉKM) has updated MTI on the largest school construction in the last 35 years.
Cultural heritage is also being rescued
According to the report, in the last month, the former Hungarian Radio office building and the Hungarian Radio Archive have been fenced off and evacuated. Currently, the demolition of the windows and the attic of the office buildings is underway, while the cultural and historical artefacts in the buildings are also being salvaged.
It was also announced that the entire area of the new Pázmány Campus will be handed over to the contractor on 31 August, after the Media Services Support and Asset Management Fund (MTVA) has moved out of its department still there, and the contractor will start the structural demolition of the building on 2 September, which must be completed by March 2025.
Services are created that are accessible to the public
According to the ministry, the project will demolish the "disfiguring, out-of-place dilapidated buildings" in the centre of the capital's 8th district and renew the Palace Quarter.
"With the new headquarters of one of Hungary's oldest, largest and one of the best universities, the enclosure behind the National Museum, which has been unused since the Hungarian Radio moved, will be closed. In its place, a new university campus will be created that meets the challenges of today's world, with an open, green space and services accessible to the public," they wrote.
The facades and streets of the area will also be renewed
Construction of the new complex could start in the second half of 2025, and until then they will continue to seek suggestions from local residents on how to develop the new district in parallel with the new Campus.
As part of the project, the facades of the houses in the area, streets, pavements, squares and related utility infrastructure will be renovated, and new parks and community spaces will be created, the statement said.
