Within days, the walls of Diósgyőr Castle will reach their final height
The Épkar Zrt. and FK-RASZTER Zrt. are working hard on the reconstruction of Diósgyőr Castle. The recently relaunched project is now at a very spectacular stage: more and more parts of the castle are reaching their original height. As we wrote in our previous article, the installation of the battlements began in the summer, and the contractors are making excellent progress with their reconstruction, with almost all of the stone corbels now in place.
One of the most important pieces of Hungarian Gothic secular architecture not only impressed visitors in its own time, but soon we will again be able to experience the outstanding beauty of the once famous castle.
Three buildings best represent the quality of Gothic castle architecture in Hungary today: the Royal Palace of Buda, the Royal Castle of Visegrád and the Castle of Diósgyőr.
The interior of Gothic castles was considerably more spacious than that of the Romanesque. The richly decorated buildings contain reception rooms, throne rooms and knight's chambers, whose windows are usually sealed with glass: the round glass panes in the lead frames are not only important indicators of the period, but also contribute to the magical atmosphere of the ancient buildings.
The restaurant's star-shaped vault will soon be built
According to information provided to us by Zoltán Kolozsvári project manager, Attila Stupeczky chief architect and Volt Zsolt Vári site manager, work continued at a brisk pace in August:
The brackets of the killer cruiser will soon completely surround the inner castle.
The construction of the inner castle's stone walls is progressing steadily, while the construction of the elevator shaft in the ruined tower and the masonry of the inner wall section on the west side are well underway.
Soon the ramonades will be installed and construction will begin on the star-vaulted ceiling of the restaurant in the west wing. The roof structure of the north wing of the palace is under construction and assembly of this structure should start in the next few weeks.
The protective walls between the towers will reach their original height within weeks
The twin towers of the outer castle are being lined with parapets, as are the spiral staircases leading up to them. These will enable the eastern and southern cortina walls (defensive walls between the bastions) to regain their original height in the near future.
In addition, the stone gate frame of the Ernye bán tower has been replaced, but the construction of the staircase tower is also nearing completion.
The roof structure of the external kitchen has also received insulation and roof foils, so that tile roofing and tin roofing can start in September, and the slabs of the twin towers will soon receive the filling and the full layering of the slab.
