The transformer station, which is part of the electricity network, is responsible for supplying electricity to around 22,000 residential customers.

The E.ON Hungária Group has set up a new transformer substation in Őrmező, South Buda, to increase the security of supply in the area. The HUF 3.76 billion investment was partly financed by the European Union and partly by the company itself.

Fully automated complex completed

At the inauguration of the facility on 18 September, Adám Katona, Deputy General Manager for Networks of E.ON Hungária Group said that the investment aims to address the increased energy consumption needs of the region, strengthen security of supply and allow for the connection of additional renewable energy sources to the grid.

The substation will serve the electricity needs of almost 22,000 residential customers, but will also serve the needs of future facilities, such as the South Buda Central Hospital planned for the nearby site

- he said.

In the 3500 square metre substation, the operation of transformers and all equipment is fully automated and can be monitored remotely. The Deputy General Manager said that a special feature of the investment was the first use of smart transformers in the domestic residential energy supply sector, which continuously collect and analyse data on their own operation, thus anticipating possible malfunctions.

completed as part of a HUF 160 billion programme

At the inauguration of the facility on 19 September, Attila Steiner, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Policy of the Ministry of Energy (EM), said that the new investment will contribute to making the Hungarian electricity grid much more flexible, and many more of these are needed in all parts of the country. He recalled that a HUF 160 billion programme funded by the EU's Recovery and Resilience Instrument (RRF) had been launched to stimulate investment, including the construction of the transformer substation in Őrmező.
