A contractor has been selected to build a new crèche on the site of the Melczer-Mándy manor house in Sajóörös, Borsod county. The municipality is seeking funding for the project through tenders.

According to the public procurement notice published at announcement published in the public procurement notice, the local council deemed the bid submitted by Norvex Kft. to be the best among those submitted for the work.

Two hundred square metre building for children to take possession of

The new crèche building will have a useful floor area of nearly 200 square metres, according to the tender. The Castle Grove nursery will thus cover 197.4+26.88 square metres and will include a warming kitchen. The Jókai Street project site is unique as it is the site of the Melczer-Mándy Castle in Sajóörös.

The new nursery could be built next to a 132-year-old castle

Géza Melczer, one of the namesakes of the patinated building, was born in the middle of the 19th century and played a lion's share in the country's and Borsod's participation in the industrialisation process that accelerated after 1867. Melczer was a member of parliament for twenty years and had the castle built in 1892. The many failures he suffered in his public life had a negative impact on his health. After his death at the age of fifty-four, the building passed to his daughter Georgina. The name of the castle as it is known today was Mándy, the surname of her heir husband.
The family home was nationalised during the period of the state dictatorship, and the castle was used as a council building and then as the councilor's official residence. At the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, the building was used as a foster home, with fifty children in state care living within its walls, and later as a maternity home. Since 2016, the municipality has been the trustee of the property.

Population growth in the municipality

The municipality would erect a crèche building on the site, in keeping with the patrician castle. Utilities have already been installed at the site of the planned construction. Several smaller buildings will be demolished to increase the green area. The municipality has consulted the National Council of Architectural Design, which will allow the demolition of a small outbuilding facing Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Road and a block of buildings with a prefabricated structure. The municipality has applied for funds to build the new crèche. The project can only be realised once these funds have been awarded.
The creation of the new facility is justified by the increase in the population of the municipality. Sajóörös is one of the small villages where, apart from a
slowdown, the population has been growing since 2015.
