The new division will produce nicotine pillows for both the Hungarian and global markets.

Construction has begun on a new 7,500 square metre production hall in Pécs, where nicotine pads (also known as snus) will be manufactured. Construction is underway at BAT's Finn Street site and the new building is expected to be completed in 2025, according to a statement from the UK-based international company.

Pécs is already one of the world's leading nicotine pillow production centres, with more than 3 billion pillows produced in 2023 at its BAT complex. The Pécs production centre serves both Hungarian and global markets. The development of the nicotine cushion production capacity will add a total of 16 new production lines to the Pécs production.

BAT is still one of the largest employers in the region. The plant has a significant number of employees in technical, logistics and production areas, with 100 open positions currently available and planned expansions in the coming years will create a total of 450 new jobs in Pécs.
