All buildings will be demolished and rebuilt at a crossing point on the southern border

On the Hungarian-Serbian border, there are currently border crossing points at Hercegszántó, Bácsalmás, Tompa, Röszke, Ásotthalmó, Bácsszentgyörgy, Tiszasziget and Kübekháza, while the closest border crossing point on the Hungarian-Croatian border is at Udvar. Most of these - Tompa, Röszke and Hercegszántó - only accept crossers at certain times. However, freight crossing is only possible at Tompa, Röszke and Udvar. The use of the latter is a significant detour for Hungarian-Serbian freight traffic.

Developments are also starting on the other side of the border

The investment in Hercegszántó would allow freight traffic to pass through the border crossing, thus significantly reducing the congestion at the Tompa and Röszke crossings.
In parallel with the Hungarian side, the border crossing at Backi-Breg (Béreg) in Serbia is also under construction. Thus, the timing of the project will also have to be taken into account by the contractor during the project scheduling and implementation.

Significant increase in the capacity of the crossing

The project must be implemented on a section of just 383 metres on the exit and entry sides of the crossing, while ensuring that traffic can continue to flow. According to the announcement published in the EU public procurement notice, 2×2 freight lanes and bus lanes of the same size must be built on both the exit and entry sides. Two lanes for passenger cars will be constructed, and the project also includes the construction of transport corridors for pedestrians and cyclists.

The crossing will also accommodate oversized and dangerous goods vehicles

The project includes the construction of a parking lot for forty trucks on the exit side and 42 on the entry side, with space for three trucks carrying dangerous goods.
The development will also enable the border crossing to be adapted to allow the unhindered passage of oversized vehicles.

Nearly 45 thousand square metres of paving to be renewed

According to the notice, there will also be a parking area for cars with seventy spaces, next to the covered testing car parks. The concrete and asphalt pavement at the crossing will be renewed on approximately 44530 square metres, with 6930 square metres of paving in paving stones.
The company awarded the contract will have to construct 53,000 cubic metres of earthworks and 3,453 square metres of buildings. The combined area of the shelters and canopies will be approximately 7,595 square metres.

Bus terminal and customs buildings also under construction

The contractor's tasks will include the demolition of the existing buildings and, of course, the construction of the new central office and toll service buildings. There will also be a station for continuous axle weight and total weight measurement on both sides of the crossing. The successful tenderer will have to construct a customs goods inspection building with both open and closed sections, as well as a terminal for buses.
