Hungary's most modern sports facility is completed: the MTK Sports Park

Published

The new sports complex of MTK was completed in 660 days by Bayer Construct Zrt. in the rust belt area of Kerepesi út in the capital

The sports park created by Bayer Construct Zrt. is unrivalled not only in terms of its size, but also in terms of its technological solutions.

Renewable energy for sport

On the 94,000 square metre site, around 25,000 square metres have been built, in addition to 22,000 square metres of paving and 285 trees. During the construction, 15,000 cubic metres of concrete and 1,670 tonnes of reinforcing steel were used, and 3,666 square metres of prefabricated panels were used for the slab structure.

Water from the 1,300-metre deep thermal wells is returned to the ground after use, ensuring a sustainable water cycle.

The energy supply of the facility is also exceptional: nearly a thousand solar panels provide 500 kWp of rated power, which also covers the energy needs of the thermal wells that run the heating and hot water system.

Versatile features - beyond sport

The new sports park is not just a training and competition venue. The complex is also ideal for exhibitions, conferences, concerts and leisure events. It will also provide a full-fledged training and competition venue for a wide range of sports, including basketball, handball, volleyball, rhythmic gymnastics, fencing and football, with the technical facilities for television broadcasting. Visitors will also be able to enjoy four snack bars and a future restaurant with a commercial kitchen.

High level architectural and technological solutions

Special features of the project include 50-metre span, 15-tonne steel lattice girders supported by 22-metre high reinforced concrete piers.

The aluminium frame and tarpaulin covering of the tented gym is an architecturally and structurally remarkable solution.

The facility's electrical systems - security, sports lighting, audiovisual and IT networks - are state-of-the-art.

Group collaboration and technological innovation

With the construction of a 4,900-seat multi-purpose sports hall, a training hall and outdoor pitches, one of Budapest's long neglected industrial areas has been revitalised. The project was also a particularly important milestone for Bayer Construct Zrt., as it marked the debut of the company's new geothermal business, the first to install a thermal water heating system.

As project leader József Murányi pointed out:

"The entire Bayer Construct team was involved in the construction of the sports park - from the excavation work with our own fleet of machines, to the prefabrication of the reinforced concrete structures, to the complete structural construction, all in-house."

The MTK Sports Park on Kerepesi Road thus not only offers sporting opportunities, but also contributes to the regeneration of the neighbourhood as a whole.
