Structural reinforcements are already being carried out by Épkar on Semmelweis Ferenc Square.

As we reported in May 2024 reported in May 2024, the closed-row residential building, designed by Samu Berger and built in 1891, is undergoing a complete renovation by Épkar Zrt. The former residential building has been used since 1997 by the Semmelweis University for educational purposes since 1997, and as a result of their work, the building will become the BSc training centre of the Institute of Digital Health Sciences, but it will also house the new specialised continuing education centre for social leadership training, the Mental Health Institute, and some of the training courses of the National Laboratory for Data-Driven Health.

They are beyond demolition

Behind the four-winged façade, divided by a locally protected, historicising balustrade, institutional premises equipped with state-of-the-art educational technology can be created on a usable floor space of 889 square metres. According to photographs published on the contractor's Épkar community page, the demolition is already complete and structural reinforcement is currently underway. Their photos show that

the entire roof structure was removed, the ornate staircase was retained, the load-bearing walls were demolished down to the brick, and the partition walls were removed almost everywhere to create new classrooms with a new layout. The slab was strengthened with steel reinforcement and additional steel sections where necessary, and the reinforced concrete frame structure for the new building elements is currently being constructed.

The spaces will soon be outlined

The building's cantilevered basement was cleaned out like the upstairs and reinforced with reinforced concrete additions where necessary, making the basement rooms suitable for a variety of functions.

The contractors have 20 months to complete the complex renovation, after which one of the largest universities in Hungary will be able to take possession of its new educational building.
