Sopron's important school system is being upgraded, and a 50-year-old building has already been renovated

With more than HUF 3.6 billion in grant funding, co-financed by the European Union and the government, the five educational institutions of the Sopron Vocational Training Centre, including the dormitory, the kitchen and the restaurant of the local trade and catering vocational school, will be renovated under the Széchenyi Plan Plus programme.

The improvements carried out so far in the course of the project, and some of which have just been handed over, have affected the dormitory building, its kitchen and restaurant, which also serve as a classroom, covering an area of around 570 square metres. The fifty-year-old building has been given a new exterior, and the energy renovation included replacing the windows and windows, insulating the roof and the façade.

According to the press release of the institution, this construction and energy modernisation was carried out with 120 million HUF within the project. The renovation work was carried out in nearly five months by Horváth Color Építőipari Kft..

Spend money as efficiently as possible

Speaking at the project event on Thursday, Zoltán Nyul, Deputy State Secretary for Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium's Building Construction, said that the renewal of the infrastructure is intended to promote quality education and to strengthen the feeling in students that "it is good to go here".

It is important that the total amount of the grant is spent as efficiently as possible during the implementation of the entire project, and that the economic aspects of the investments are always taken into account, so that they also improve the long-term operation of the institutions, he said.

"When you look at the building blocks of this project, the insulation and energy improvements, the subsequent operation, all serve to make it more economical down the road," he said.

Sopron school town

Attila Barcza, Member of Parliament for Sopron and the surrounding region, emphasised that Sopron is a school town, whose inhabitants are proud of all their educational institutions.

Vocational schools are justifiably popular, as the marketable knowledge that students acquire within the walls of these institutions can help them find a job in Sopron and its surroundings, but also in the capital or across the border in neighbouring Austria, almost immediately, he said.
