What is being built?
The Mazsihisz renovated Szeretetkórház (Hospital of Love) in Zugló is now complete
On 3 December, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Andor Grósz, President of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz), handed over the renovated building of the Mazsihisz charity hospital. As Viktor Orbán pointed out at the ceremony, a complete healthcare reconstruction is underway nationwide. He recalled that 91 hospitals, 54 clinics and 107 ambulance stations have been renovated, and 13 hospitals have been upgraded in Budapest.
„The Jewish hospital is particularly close to my heart because I have found that when patients are cared for in church-run institutions, something special happens,” said the Prime Minister.
In his welcoming speech, Andor Grósz said that the complete renovation of the Szeretetkórház was made possible by approximately 8.5 billion forints in government funding. The institution serves not only members of the Jewish community, but Hungarian society as a whole.
„This hospital plays a prominent role not only in the care of chronic patients and those with musculoskeletal disorders, but also in hospice care, as it is home to the largest hospice ward in the country," he emphasised.
A modern hospital born out of six months of hard work
In May, we reported that Kolmann Bau, which is also responsible for Building III, had won the contract to renovate Building II, which was completed in 1910. The hospital building at 53 Amerikai út and 42 Laky Adolf utca in the 14th district was one of the most important healthcare institutions of the Jewish community. The condition of the complex had deteriorated, so it was renovated as part of a larger development package affecting the entire hospital.
Building II, with a floor area of 2,241 m², was expanded by a total of 227 square metres by Kolmann Bau, including a new main entrance and patient admission department. The old staircases of the three-storey, high-roofed hospital block were demolished and replaced with modern, barrier-free lifts and stairs.
