The four-laning of the 33 motorway could be completed ahead of schedule

The development of the 33 main road in Debrecen is proceeding according to schedule: a 1.3-kilometre section of the main road has already been completed up to the asphalt binder course level, and the construction of the hydraulic binder course on the remaining sections is expected to be completed by the end of October 2023.

As we have previously reported previously reported, numerous transport developments are being implemented in the city in connection with the BMW factory under construction. As part of the current project, the 7.7-metre section of main road 33 connecting road 3316 and the industrial development area 2010.7-metre section of the connecting road between the 33 main road and the industrial development area, where a new roundabout will also be built as part of the project. The project is being carried out on behalf of Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium (ÉKM) and will be implemented by the Nyíregyháza-based KE-VÍZ 21 Zrt. in Nyíregyháza, with a net value of HUF 3 billion 319 million.

The current progress of the project was reported by Adam Tamás, project leader of the KE-VÍZ 21 Zrt.. As we have learned, in addition to the 1.3 km section completed up to the asphalt binder layer mentioned above, there is already

• the replacement of the 600 drinking water transmission line under the management of TRV Zrt., including cathodic protection, has been constructed and is now in operation; and
• the 22 kV medium voltage overhead line was also replaced.
• In parallel with the road construction, the dynamic street lighting network is being built, with underground cables laid along the entire section, and the poles are currently being installed and connected;
• and kerbing works at the roundabout junction.

Two milestones passed

After the hydraulic binder base is completed, asphalt paving will start on the entire surface, and the asphalt wearing course is expected to be completed on the entire surface by the end of November 2023, weather permitting. At the same time, the paving work will start and the final traffic engineering elements (guardrail, concrete baffle, painting of pavement signs) will be installed," the project manager said.

August 22, 2023 was an important milestone for the project, as traffic was allowed to pass over part of the completed bridge on Section II, and the asphalt binder course was completed on all four lanes of the nearly 400 meters of Section I of the development.

He also highlighted 17 October 2023 as an important milestone in the project, as this is the date on which both sides of the bridge will be opened to traffic.

Could be ready before the deadline

The lead time for the project is 14 months (December 2022 - February 2024), of which, excluding the winter period, the contractor has approximately 8 months to complete the technical content. The project leader stressed,

Despite the tight deadline, the project is expected to be completed by December this year, thanks to constructive cooperation with the client.

Finally, he added that it is important to underline that two-way traffic is guaranteed on the section, but additional restrictions are expected during the works.
