Road building

The M49 builders can look forward to the continuation of the project

The Duna Aszfalt Építő Zrt. 2024 project, which will connect the Satu Mare region to the motorway network, has exceeded its targets both in terms of track structure and bridge construction.

A key element in connecting Szatmár to European and, in particular, Hungarian traffic is the construction of the Hungarian section of the expressway between Vásárosnamény and Szatmárnémeti, named M49. Its construction is progressing with remarkable organisation. The Duna Aszfalt Építő Zrt. is building 22 bridges during the construction of the 28.15-kilometre section between the M3 motorway and Ököritófülpös, not only approaching the target of starting construction of all bridges in 2024, but they even exceeded it in certain project elements: the road builder has already completed several bridges.

12 kilometres of main track have already had the bonding layer applied

In connection with the construction of the 22 structures in question and the progress of the main line, our newspaper asked Péter Czeglédi, the head of the main construction department. As his answers revealed:

"The construction of the track structure progressed at a good pace and we managed to exceed the planned volume for the year by 25%. We have reached the main track (with minor skips) with the binder course from 0+450 to 12+500km section. Also up to the level of the binder course, the roundabout K1 linking the Jarmi junction with the 49 road has been completed and has now been given a wearing course. In addition, we have also built road pavement layers on two intersecting dirt roads."

Bridge construction progressing at a good pace

With the exception of one bridge, the contractor has begun work on all of the bridges, among which the Kraszna Bridge, which has been described in detail in our newspaper, but construction of the other bridges is also progressing at a good pace. The deck has been completed on seven bridges. Piling and substructure construction has been completed or started on six other bridges, and finishing work was already underway on five bridges in December.

The winter shutdown went smoothly

"Actually, at the beginning of December, the weather decided that we had to stop the construction," said the chief architect. In December, only the bridge construction works were carried out due to the cold weather, but it is important to underline that the contractor was able to complete the most important project elements set for 2024, namely the construction of the K1 roundabout, the corrective embankment of the 471 road and the construction of the B075 bridge embankment, as planned.

"In December, we completed the onerous filling of two more structures, and at the same time we winterized and closed the entire work area."
