The oval track, with its 47-degree banked parabolic curves, will be used not only for speed but also for load testing of brakes, chassis and cooling systems.

The newly completed track element of the ZalaZONE Automotive Test Track, a 4.45-kilometre-long high-speed oval track capable of speeds of up to 250 kilometres, was inaugurated in Zalaegerszeg on 14 May. The oval track, with two parabolic curves inclined at an angle of 47 degrees, will be used not only for speed tests but also for load testing of brakes, running gear and cooling systems. The oval track was designed by Duna Aszfalt Zrt. and, according to our information, the high-speed oval track (HSO) was designed by Főmterv Zrt. in collaboration with the German company OBERMEYER.

The number of manufacturers using the test track has exceeded fifty, and the aim is to reach one hundred

At the ceremony, László Palkovics, Government Commissioner for Artificial Intelligence, CEO of Autóipari Próbapálya Zala Kft., said that the construction of the test track will not end with the oval track, because the continuous changes in the automotive industry and new technologies require further developments. He said that the number of manufacturers using the Zalaegerszeg facility has already exceeded fifty, but they are aiming to reach a hundred, now serving not only European partners, but also Chinese, Japanese, South Korean and Turkish ones.

The test track is currently operated jointly with AVL Austria, and is not only a stand-alone facility, but part of a complete ecosystem that can accommodate research and development processes.

Other sectors are also served here, with the state-of-the-art Rheinmetall tank factory, the Flextronics plant, which produces power converters for BMW, is due to be inaugurated soon, and the Bosch R&D unit with 250 researchers is already operational.

Combining German precision and Hungarian innovation

Bálint Nagy, Minister of State for Transport Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium said that in order for the automotive industry to continue to be part of Hungary's future development, in addition to production, great emphasis must be placed on innovation and research and development, which is why the Government decided in 2016 to establish the automotive test track in Zalaegerszeg. Recent years have already proven the justification for this, and the oval track will make the Zalaegerszeg complex the first of its kind in Europe, he said.

László Vigh, Member of Parliament, recalled that thanks to the government's decision in 2016, a track suitable for testing electric and autonomous vehicles was built on 265 hectares, creating "the Silicon Valley of the automotive industry". He said that the 4.5-kilometre oval track, which has just been inaugurated, is a combination of German precision and Hungarian innovation, creating a
