The installation of the bridge over the M1 motorway has accelerated
In recent days, we have reported on several bridge construction projects currently being carried out by MKIF Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt.. This is no coincidence: on the one hand, the M1 motorway 72 crossings are being rebuilt or replaced to expand the motorway, while a pedestrian and cycle bridge is being demolished and rebuilt in preparation for the future expansion of the M7 motorway Velence.
News has just come in from the M1, in the usual format from MKIF: on Facebook in a post accompanied by numerous photos. As reported, the first sections of the new bridge under construction were lifted into place on the M1 motorway at the 44-kilometre mark during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The work progressed so well that instead of the originally planned two nights, the lifting was completed in one night. As a result, only a few hours of night-time traffic restrictions are planned for today, Wednesday. Five pairs of beams, each weighing 36 tonnes, have now been put in place. This work requires a high degree of concentration and precision. The elements, weighing tens of tonnes, must be fitted into place with millimetre precision.
These lifts can only be carried out safely in areas closed to traffic. In order to minimise disruption to traffic on the motorway, bridge construction work is carried out at night, they emphasise, adding that traffic patterns may change from night to night in the coming days, so they ask that you check the current restrictions at this link.
At the same location, on the side leading towards Győr, the new elements are expected to be installed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday night and Saturday night.
They emphasise that temporary traffic restrictions and lane closures are to be expected on the M1 during the coming days, but only at night (expected between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.). Traffic will be ensured in both directions during the works. The motorway will only be closed at night and for a short period of time, a few minutes at most.
They emphasise that during the work, the track will be usable in both directions, but due to crane work similar to that on Tuesday evening, certain lanes will have to be closed from time to time, and in some cases, traffic will also have to be stopped for a short time (5-10 minutes). Information about the schedule and diversions will always be provided in advance and in good time.
During the expansion of the M1 motorway, the section between the M0 motorway and Bicske will be completed by the end of August 2028, while the section leading to the Concó rest area in the Bábolna area will be completed by the end of August 2029, after which the development will continue. The M1 motorway will thus be expanded to 78 km in length with 2×3 lanes, plus a so-called intelligent hard shoulder that can be used as a full traffic lane on each side. This will allow traffic to travel on up to 2×4 lanes between Budapest and Győr.The restriction is necessary because this is the only way to safely lift the beams of a bridge under construction and to carry out the formwork and concreting of the bridge.
