Road building
The first section of the M4 motorway in Tiszántúl has been handed over
On 22 December, the first section of the M4 motorway between Törökszentmiklós and Kisújszállás in the Kenderes region was handed over. The M4, which had previously been built from the capital to Törökszentmiklós, was extended by 34.29 kilometres under the general construction contract Duna Aszfalt Projekt Zrt.. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gave a speech at the event, which was also attended by János Lázár, Minister of Construction and Transport, and Sándor Fazekas, former Minister of Agriculture and Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly.
Traffic congestion easing in the region's towns and cities
The Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium investment was implemented in three phases:
- The Törökszentmiklós bypass has been extended to four lanes over a distance of 8.1 kilometres.;
- It was built on a new 17.5-kilometre route between Törökszentmiklós and Kisújszállás.;
- while the Kisújszállás bypass was also extended by 8.7 kilometres.
The development included three separate-level junctions and one simple and one complex rest area. The contractors also built 14 structures, including a new bridge over the Nagykunság main canal.
The information leaflet distributed at the ÉKM site emphasised that, with the construction of the new section, the settlements located along the route were relieved of through traffic on main road 4; in addition, thanks to the 110 km/h speed limit, journey times were reduced.
We managed to open it to traffic ahead of schedule.
The four-lane expansion of the previously accident-prone Main Road 4 began in 2017. Since then, including the section that has just been handed over, 153 kilometres of road between the M0 motorway and Kisújszállás have been converted to four lanes, meaning that it is now possible to drive on four lanes all the way from the capital to Nagykunság.
The foundation stone for the project was laid in June 2023 in the Törökszentmiklós area; The investment was scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, but thanks to the progress made, this has been brought forward to December 2025.
