Formula 1 speed: the first stage of the Hungaroring has been completed

The first phase of the works on Hungaroring has been completed, with a spectacular transformation of the paddock and the auditorium behind the main stand. According to the website of the facility, which hosts the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix, the last five months have seen the focus shift from racing machines to construction machinery. Workers have been pushing hard to make sure that those arriving for the F1 race on 21 July can see it, marking the start of a reconstruction that will last until 2026.

To meet deadlines, work was often carried out 24 hours a day, with 400-500 people working on the site at any one time, and a total of 1500 people working on the project. Four tower cranes and five mobile cranes were used, a total of 390 kilometres of pipelines and 3,200 tonnes of reinforcing steel were installed, and 1,674 cubic metres of precast reinforced concrete structures and 32,000 cubic metres of concrete were used. They moved 170,000 cubic metres of earth, completed all the supporting walls for the event area behind the grandstand, which are 450 metres long in total, and built the new staircase leading to the auditorium. The buildings in the lower depot area were demolished and the new paddock, now 8,000 square metres in size, was built. In addition, a large part of the final utility network has been completed and a large area of spectacular landscaping work has been carried out to ensure that the Hungaroring team can host the Hungarian Grand Prix in a fitting environment.

In the new era, the demands have changed, the business world around F1 has changed, and nowadays Formula 1 races are considered a four-day festival. The smallest depot in the world championship series has been widened, the two tunnels are ready for construction, the target flat has been resurfaced and the area behind the grandstand has also seen spectacular changes. There are no abandoned buildings or construction sites in the area, which was very important for the television coverage." - he added.

The track renovation will continue after the Hungarian Grand Prix.
