Three Magyar Építő projects in the running for the International Outstanding Roofs Award

The Hungarian House of Music and the Museum of Ethnography were shortlisted for the prestigious IFD Award in the flat roof category, while the Western Railway Station is a contender for the metal roof category.

This year, the International Federation of Roofers (IFD) will hold its 71st General Congress in Bolzano, South Tyrol, Italy. The IFD's Hungarian member organisation is the Hungarian Association of Insulation, Roofing, Tinning and Carpentry Workers (ÉMSZ).

The House of Hungarian Music (Liget Budapest Project)

The conference will be opened on 11 October and closed on 14 October by some of the most prominent experts and respected leaders in the field. They will discuss the key issues and developments in the sector, before a gala dinner on 13 October to announce the winners of the IFD Award, the roofs grand prize, in four categories.

Three of the twelve projects are Hungarian

Nyugati Railway Station (MÁV)

Recently, the organisation's jury published a shortlist of three buildings for each of these awards by the organisation's jury, with Hungary represented in three places. In all three cases, the projects were carried out with Magyar Építő Zrt. acting as the main contractor. The three Hungarian projects were previously presented in detail presented in detail when they won several different awards at the Roof of the Year 2023 event.

Facade category:

  • Wels bus station at Kaiser Josef Platz (Schmid Dachbau GmbH, Austria)
  • Hungarian House of Music (Metal Hungaria Holding Zrt., general contractor: Magyar Építő Zrt.)
  • Ethnographic Museum and Visitor Centre (Lajta-Duna Építő és Vízszigetelő Kft. and Renomé-Bau Kft., general contractor: consortium ZÁÉV Építőipari Zrt. - Magyar Építő Zrt.)

In the Metal roof category:

  • Martin County Courthouse (Renaissance Roofing Inc, USA)
  • Tallinn Cathedral (Oma Katused OÜ és Valtsproff OÜ, Estonia)
  • Western Railway Station (Horex Kft., General Contractor: Magyar Építő Zrt.)

In the field category:

  • Maryland State Capitol Building (The Durable Slate Company, USA)
  • House Fowler (H.P. Plum & Co. (PTY) LTD, South Africa)
  • Yellow Sands, Thurlestone (Stuart Wheeler Roofing Ltd, United Kingdom)
