A major step forward in the preparation of the M34 to the border project
An important announcement has been published in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin. The Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium has announced a public procurement tender for the M34 expressway, which branches off from the M3 motorway at Vásárosnamény and reaches the Ukrainian border at Záhony. The ministry is seeking engineering firms to prepare permit and implementation plans for the design review in a conditional procedure.
The winner will have a total of 935 days to complete the task, and the plans for the review are expected to be completed after the 2017 public procurement procedure in 2017, which was also reported by our newspaper: at that time, the consortium of UNITEF-83 Zrt., RODEN Kft. and TURA-Terv Kft. won the contract.
A new design process has just been launched, which will result in the detailed documentation of a new 2×2 lane expressway of approximately 32 km on a new route.
19 new bridges on the section
They are planning for the route:
- 5 separate junctions and sub-junctions (M3-M34 interchange, M34-4109 j. road, M34 -4111 j. road, and a separate junction in the area of Fényeslitke and Tuzsér),
- 1 roundabout end node,
- and 19 bridge structures (including a 248.75 m long road bridge over the railway)
Plans would also be drawn up for the renovation and extension of the engineering depots currently used at Vásárosnamény and Kisvárda, and for the construction of a new complex rest area in the area of the 10+650 km section of the new line.
Cycling needs and roundabouts
In addition to a number of other tasks, the designer should review cycling needs for the entire length of the section: provide cycle crossings at crossing roads and structures
And the M34 is planned to connect to the existing trunk road 4 at its end point near the state border with a roundabout: the plans for this roundabout are also expected to be drawn up in this call for tenders. In addition, the design of the reconstruction of the section between the roundabout and the border is also an important task: the planned roundabout junction on the main road 4 is located at the border with Záhony at km 338+197.5, and the current border crossing point is at km 341+300.
The call also includes tasks related to the M3
In addition, the designer would also be responsible for the M3 branch of the M3-M34 junction towards Beregdaróc up to kilometre marker 288+630 (covering a section of approximately 8 kilometres – the junction is located at kilometre marker 280, near Vásárosnamény). This project element is linked to the project in which, according to previous information that the M3 motorway is also planned to be extended eastwards in the long term, so that it reaches the Ukrainian border at the newly built Beregdaróc-Beregdáda border crossing (about 5 km north of Beregsurány). This transport corridor would follow the route of the A41 main road.
