The sixth Duna Group Szabadegyetem was launched. The engineering student participants were welcomed by Beatrix Szabó, President and CEO. She encouraged the young people to be the future developers of digitalisation in the construction industry.

The Duna Group Szabadegyetem, an event for the next generation of the Hungarian construction industry, was launched on Friday morning at the Group's Budapest office, and over the next two days students will visit one of the country's largest infrastructure projects, the construction of the Danube bridge and related road network in Mohács.

Record number of applications is the best possible feedback

According to the opening ceremony, the main aim of the event is not only to transfer knowledge, but also to build bridges between the best of the profession and the builders of the future.

It also turned out that this year the Free University received a record number of applications, which is an excellent feedback.

The 2025 programme focuses on four main areas:

  • the activity Duna Group (bridge and road construction),
  • innovation (including infraBIM),
  • on the environment,
  • to develop students.

In the lead in BIM

"The decades and the history behind Duna Aszfalt show that with determination, serious professional knowledge, flexibility and creativity, great things can be achieved" - said Beatrix Szabó, President and CEO of Duna Aszfalt Zrt. in her inspiring opening speech.

He explained that the Duna Group is leading the way in civil engineering not only at home but also internationally in the use of the BIM - he considered the results so far as a major achievement.

"We are not only working on a single application for the BIM, but we are also digitizing complete construction processes with the BIM, enabling us to deliver higher quality and shorter lead times. Moreover, we have also achieved excellent results in coordinating office and field work,"said Beatrix Szabó, who was head of the BIM division of Duna Group before her appointment in April 2025.

Young civil engineers are imagining the challenges of the future

"We are also exploring the possibilities of artificial intelligence. Economists say the logic of the world economy will change in ten years. You will have a big role to play and I am confident that we can work together in this area. You will be the ones who will give a new impetus to the construction industry" - the CEO encouraged the young people present, and expressed the hope that the students will choose Duna Group as their workplace, based on the impulses, good impressions and "skills" they gained at the Free University.

The most exciting projects are complemented by the best experts

As it was said at the opening ceremony, the focus of this year's Duna Group Szabadegyetem will be on one of the biggest projects in Hungary, the Danube Bridge in Mohács, which is under construction.

The main goal of the event is to strengthen the commitment and sense of mission of young people: accordingly, during the three days they will acquire intensive and truly useful professional knowledge from the most outstanding professionals.

Following the tradition of the past five years, team building will be emphasized again this year: the organizers have included a number of colourful activities, giving future engineers the opportunity to network with each other.
