Green building investment - Százhalombatta to rebuild the town's sports hall with HUF 5 billion
The Vasút Street sports facility, built in 1980, is undergoing a major renovation. The municipality of Hunderthalombatta has entrusted Strukta Group Kft. with the modernisation and extension of the sports hall, a project worth nearly five billion euros.
With the implementation of the plans prepared by ABK Építésziroda Kft., the municipality will have a multifunctional hall that will meet the requirements for the organisation of NB I/B handball matches, but will also be suitable for other sporting events and activities.
Asbestos-cement walls disappear
The current facility comprises a 46×56 and a 30×48 metre sports field with a double-sided grandstand with a capacity of five hundred spectators. The hall is surrounded by a U-shaped steel pillar-framed ground floor and, in some sections, two-storey service buildings, offices, changing rooms and storage areas. Built 45 years ago, the facility is a steel-framed hall supported by lattice girders, with walls of mineral wool-insulated asbestos-cement panels covered with plastic.
The height of the hall will be nine and a half metres instead of seven
The main tasks for the contractor include increasing the cubature to achieve the required functionality and capacity. The side wings and the main building of the existing building will be demolished and replaced by multi-storey wings.
The hall building will be retained and its ceiling height will be increased from the current seven to nine and a half metres by reinforcing and raising the existing reinforced concrete columns, while the large span steel structure will be altered.
Significant increase in the number of seats in the auditorium
With the expansion, the area of the arena will exceed 1,280 square metres, even with the bleachers added. The net floor area of the enlarged hall will be approximately 4500 m² with the ground floor + 2 floors. The seating capacity will be 1,243 spectators in the mobile and fixed stands, with a maximum capacity of 1,000 for futsal matches and 2,400 for other events, including the standing areas.
The modernisation will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the green building certification
There will be barrier-free seating in the stands and an elevator for access to the building. The mechanical and electrical systems and fire protection of the sports hall will be extensively modernised. Cooling and heating of the building will be provided by air-source heat pumps, supplemented by district heating. Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the hall. New side and rear entrances will be added to the building, which will be barrier-free. The environment in front of the main entrance and around the building will be renewed, with electric charging points and bus and VIP parking. The client's expectation is that the design and construction will meet the requirements to obtain the BREEAM green building certification.
