Rail traffic on several sections of the main line in Pécs to speed up before the start of the school year

The MÁV Group will be carrying out scheduled maintenance work on the Pécs main line between 21 June and 18 July , according to the announcements.

According to the announcement, train services between Rétszilas and Keszőhidegkút-Gyönk will be completely stopped from 21 June to 18 July, as several tracks of Simontornya station are being rebuilt, the Sió bridge on the outskirts of the settlement is being renovated, and the road-rail crossing of the main road 61 at Pincehely is being rebuilt.

Track renewal, bridge reconstruction, level crossing modernisation

More than 600 metres of the main track III of the simontornya railway station will be replaced, the ballast will be screened, the crushed stone will be replaced, track adjustments will be made here and on track IV, and 150 metres of track III will be reinforced with earthwork technology, including the complete ballast replacement. The works will involve laying 12 lengths of 120 m of longitudinal rail and replacing additional rails, as well as carrying out the necessary maintenance on the switches," they said.

During the same period, 45 metres of the railway bridge over the Sió Bridge on the outskirts of Simontornya will be replaced, including the entire ballast and concrete floors, and the Csilléry structure will also be replaced. This rail expansion structure allows the connecting rails to move by absorbing the expansion movements of the superstructure and the bridge, thus ensuring the safe passage of trains over the bridge in changing temperature conditions

In Pincehely, the level crossing crossing of the main road 61 with three tracks will be completely renovated from 23 June to 13 July: the tracks will be replaced, a sub-structure protection layer will be installed, a switch will be replaced, a new drainage system will be built and new pavement elements will be installed on the road and in the pedestrian crossing next to the crossing, thus providing a more comfortable and safer crossing for the users, they added.

Increasing orbital speed

The reconstruction will involve laying 14 length rails of 120 metres and 10 length rails of 24 metres, working almost 4,000 tonnes of crushed stone into the track, replacing more than 300 reinforced concrete sleepers, and using 230 tonnes of asphalt, road base and 90 tonnes of ready-mix concrete. Following the adjustments, the permitted speed will be increased to 120 km/h on 300 metres at Simontornya station and to 100 km/h on track II at Pincehely station.

The track renewal will be carried out by MÁV Pályaműködtetési Zrt. during the track closure period, with the assistance of around 80-100 specialists, using large construction machinery, cranes, railway and road vehicles, and will be implemented by MÁV with its own resources of around HUF 700 million.
