Bound track
Track renovation work can begin on the HÉV lines in Budapest and the surrounding area
Important maintenance and track renovation work can begin on the Budapest and agglomeration HÉV lines. As the winner of the public procurement procedure announced by MÁV Passenger Transport Zrt., the Swietelsky Vasúttechnika Kft. will be able to carry out rail welding tasks worth a total of HUF 200 million net – the announcement can be read at TED.
What is the purpose of the investment?
The aim of the works is to increase the operational safety of the HÉV network, eliminate noisy joints and extend the service life of the track.
The use of modern rail welding technologies will reduce maintenance requirements, improve travel comfort and reduce the risk of track failure.
These projects are being implemented
The agreement covers two main areas:
- Aluminothermic rail welding and arc welding, which serves to eliminate gaps between rails and repair worn or damaged sections of track.
- Welding of bends and creation of insulated joints, which is particularly important for the safe operation of switches and junctions.
Arc welding of turnouts and the creation of insulated joints are special railway works that serve to ensure the safe operation of switches and rail connections. These technologies allow the most heavily used sections of track to be repaired without dismantling, while maintaining the electrical insulation necessary for the smooth operation of railway safety equipment.
A significant portion of the work is carried out at night to minimise disruption to daytime passenger traffic.
Where do the specialists work?
The interventions in Budapest and its agglomeration affect the HÉV lines, such as:
- H5 – Szentendre HÉV,
- H6 – Ráckeve HÉV,
- H7 – Csepel HÉV,
- H8 – Gödöllő HÉV,
- H9 – Csömör HÉV.
