World-class reproduction research centre inaugurated in Pécs

The National Research Centre for Reproductive Methodology and the renewed building of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of Pécs (PTE) were inaugurated in the Baranja Castle County on 16 June 2023.

A world-class reproduction centre and a laboratory for research activities in the obstetrics clinic have started operating, which can contribute to successful infertility treatments, increasing the effectiveness of reproductive interventions and creating demographic stability, he said.

The research centre includes a spacious, modern reception area, comfortable double wards, and the reconstruction of the south facade of the maternity clinic, the delivery rooms and the paediatric ward were all part of the Family Friendly Midwifery programme.

The sustainable operation of the institution was a priority during the construction

Zoltán Nyul, Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium's Deputy State Secretary for Building Investments, said that the research centre, in addition to serving an important social activity, is an aesthetic, sustainable and economically viable facility. The ministry strives to ensure that all investments are like this, he added.

Attila Miseta, Professor of Medicine, Rector of PTE, said that the university has been carrying out basic and applied research on human reproduction and its translation into practice with excellent results for years.

József Bódis, physician, university professor, chairman of the board of trustees of the foundation that maintains the PTE, and professional head of the research centre, pointed out that the obstetrics clinic has been the site of many outstanding achievements, new procedures and therapies. He mentioned as examples the first Hungarian foetus, the emergence of gynaecological endoscopy as a routine procedure, amniocentesis, intrauterine surgery.

Kálmán Kovács, obstetrician-gynecologist and director of the obstetrics clinic, thanked the contractors and the staff of the institution for ensuring high quality patient care during the one and a half years of the renovation.
