How the Ice Age is built in the summer heat in Nyíregyháza Zoo

The Nyíregyháza Zoo has been preparing since 2021 under construction since 2021, the Ice Age Interactive Animal Show will use modern technology to guide visitors through the animal world of the polar regions. The facility will use interactive elements to showcase the life of Arctic animals, the causes and consequences of the Ice Age, and the atmosphere of nature during the Ice Age in both its outdoor and indoor spaces. The project will be implemented in an area stretching from the main entrance of the zoo to its north-western gate, extending to the eastern boundary of the park, covering more than ten thousand square metres.

The contractor, KE-VÍZ 21 Zrt., which is working on the first three parts of the five-phase development, has already been mentioned several times in two contracts reported on the progress of the work. We are now reporting from the site with fresh photos and information.

The staff of KE-VÍZ 21 zRt. is currently working on the external and internal runways, as well as other tasks related to the construction of the next two phases. Thus, the construction of the seal house, the public square, the departure and arrival pools, and the construction of the structure of phases II-III is progressing well.

You can explore the Ice Age by boat on a spectacular wet track

The most interesting and challenging part of the project is the construction of the flume ride track - a steel structure water channel that can be navigated by boat and is also guided over the high ground. Work on sections of this through the central building and the flume ride storage building is also well underway.

In this regard, Marina Mezősi pointed out that when steel structural elements were installed on the main building block for the construction of the track, cranes were used: this required a considerable amount of work organisation. The spectacular track itself is now almost complete.

Artificial rocks are also being developed

Speaking about the solutions that will make the interactive zoo attraction special, the project manager also pointed out that the buildings of phases II and III will also feature the unique and special glass and artificial rock facade cladding already used in phase I.

Also interesting elements of the Ice Age will be the animatronic - i.e. robotic - sword-winged dolphins that will be placed in Orca Bay in the first half of next year.

In addition, the final phase of the flume ride sewer construction is still to be completed before the final handover, and the final glass and resin paving and resin paving works are progressing steadily.

Finally, we also learnt that the flume ride will be commissioned this year and the orcas will be installed in their pools next year.
