Underground car park, open spaces and green solutions are already strengthening the University of Pannonia

The renovation of the lower campus of the University of Pannonia has reached its goal: on 5 October, one of the largest-scale developments in the history of the University of Pannonia in Veszprém was inaugurated at a ceremony.

As we have previously reported previously reported, the facility located in the city centre will house the WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft. and VEMÉV-SZER Kft., partly within the framework of the European Capital of Culture programme, an underground car park was built, above which new surface car parks, a multifunctional community space and new outdoor sports facilities were created.

The benchmark for the transformation of Veszprém

The combined investment of almost HUF 15 billion was for the renovation of the campus, the modernisation of the heating system and the construction of the underground car park. The necessary funding was provided jointly by the ECF 2023 programme, the Hungarian State and the University of Pannonia.

The concept of the project was also closely linked to the development of Green City Veszprém, which, with the work of VEMÉV-SZER Kft., also focused on outdoor and park use. a continuous pedestrian zone was created in the city centre of Veszprém.

According to the information provided, the main objective of the project was to create a university campus that is organically linked to the open space system of the city centre, directly connected to the urban spaces, and freely accessible and passable for pedestrian traffic.

A pedestrian priority traffic system has emerged by reducing surface parking and discouraging vehicular traffic.
