A kindergarten was converted from a building that has been empty for more than 20 years in Békés

A new kindergarten was built in Elek for around HUF 913 million, by Futizo Kft. from Gyula. The project managed to save a very dilapidated building in the Békés county settlement, which had been vacant for more than 20 years.

Two of the three nursery schools currently operating on three sites have been renovated in a complex way, including energy efficiency, to create 150 places. The money was also used to create 60 parking spaces and to buy equipment and toys for teachers.

Speaking at the handover ceremony on 12 November, the Minister of State for Active Hungary of the Prime Minister's Office said that few places in Hungary have seen the number of children grow as much as Elek in recent years. He added that the municipality would like to apply for a new kindergarten within two years.

Almost ten times more development funding than before

MEP József Kovács (Fidesz) reminded that in the 2013-2020 EU budget period, Békés county won more than HUF 90 billion in development funds instead of the originally planned HUF 58 billion, 541 applications were implemented; almost HUF 11 billion was received for the development of kindergartens and nurseries.

Mayor György Szelezsán (Independent) in his welcome speech pointed out that in the last four years they have received almost ten times more development funds than before, of which - without claiming completeness - rural agricultural roads, The town has also seen the renovation of its sports ground, gyms, a government office, and the renovation of the Catholic Church.
